Ivan I agree with what you're saying partially. To an extant most bands are not in it for the money. But there are those who have lost sight of the dream and corrupted to change their music for money (Blink 182 at their very end). Funny how going for the money seems to end up in a band splitting? I know a local band in my town who was offered a record deal and turned it down because they couldn't keep one of the members AND had to change their style a bit.
Now there can also be a mix. They Might Be Giants, take for example, started out doing some pretty nice music but later found out that they could make money in childrens music (like little kids) so they switched to doing that, leaving all of their fans in the dust, just so they could get money. But they also SAY they did it because they love making music and they think little kids gain their taste of music small. To me it sounds like they still make the music because they love it but they lost every single fan they once had when they made the switch just to make more money.
