Hey guess what! I bought an RJ45 crosslink network cable from the dreaded bay of E, and I can now get online via my BBA and network sharing PERFECTLY! Big Grin Joy!

It was the cable after all - and man, I'm SO happy as I renewed my HL for 3 months lol!

Anyway, that Xbox link up cable was definitely the wrong cable -> for my laptop anyway!
