Otherwise, the two are similar. And as stated above the animation was two decades before it's time. It is one of the only films from the eighties that I can watch without gaging. Where you compare it to things like Dragon Ball, ect. =/
They left a lot out mainly because the manga was an epic spanning a few thousand pages, which was impossible to condense completely into a 2 hour movie.
