I go by: What i find most fun > Appearance > Function, theres no way im gonna play my characters if i dont like them, or what they use :p
if possible i'd try and mix them, on PSOBB my favourite weapon was a cross scar, thats fun over function, definately, but i didnt go for a normal cross scar, i tried for, and recieved, one of the best
at 100/30/0/0/30 so that added a little functionality 
EDIT: the trade forums arent that popular, and judging from your thread, i dont think it'd get too many replies anyways, thats a hefty frozen shooter you are after :p
