the game simply calculates before and after, if you have 100 atp and by the lvl up you have 102 atp, the game says you have gained 2 atp.
but if you somehow mess your stats, like decreasing atp to 50, after you lvl up you become with 102 atp, so the game says that you gained 52 atp.
so basicly every level has a determined atp wich may be influenced by material.
