Lazuli was slammed out of bed. She could hear the alarm sirens, and the ship was shuddering. The Sato lay whimpering by her side, as the horrible mechanical screams smashed into her brain. Lazuli knew this was no drill. She had to get off Pioneer 2 or die.
"ERINA! MELODY! PLEIONE!" she shrieked. The other 3 FOnewearls were crashing out of their rooms in their night clothes, with the other mags fluttering in panic.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!" screamed Erina, tears of terror pouring down her cheeks.
"WE HAVE TO GET OFF THE SHIP! IT MUST BE BREAKING UP!" Pleione yelled.
"HURRY! WE HAVE TO GET TO THE LIFE SHUTTLES!" Melody gestured desperately to the door. They tore down the corridor, joining the other residents of Aurora.
Obelia, a RAcaseal turned around and sighted them. "THEY'RE OK!" she called to her roomates, a HUnewearl, a RAmarl and a FOmarl. They gasped with relief.
Pleiades, the HUnewearl shook her elegant blue hair. "Thank fuck! Now if we get outta here, we will be fine!"
They slipped past flashing lights. Each one read: "This is not a drill. Evacuate immidiately. Your nearest life shuttles are positioned by Apartment Block Nebula."
The terrified crowd stampeded out of Aurora and flooded towards the shuttle chutes. And around them, Pioneer 2 groaned in its death throws.
Pleione pointed towards the dome of the city. "My god..." she whispered.
The colour drained from her face. The crowd poured towards into the shuttle chute. But the eight people where rooted with terror.
The RAmarl, Dreamer, and the FOmarl Clionna where thrown down by the violent shuddering.
A horrible crack spread along the lengh of the dome. Then the hidieous split shivered apart. And a black form poured through the crack, smothering an entire resdential area with its demonic folds of flesh. A shimmering force field spread around the wound in Pioneer 2, but the creature glowed with aniticpation.
The eight people gazed up at the bhemoth that towered above the city, that had smashed open the hull like paper.
And it the terror began anew. From the liquid mass, countless spears extended, smashing apart apartment blocks and impaling screaming people with its deadly points. The tip of the formless mass shifted, to become a hungry mouth. A gloat trickled up from the depths, as it depoisited the succulent morsels into its awaiting gullet.
Lazuli could the beast's thought slice into her despairing soul. A horrible, hissing whisper, that she thought it would kill her.
JOIN WITH ME. BECOME A PART OF ME, LAZULI!
The feast was not over. The knives descended. One smashed Aurora into rubble with a careless flick, another descended on the first escaping shuttle, slicing it in half, the two fragements fell back into its chute and exploded. The shuttle port flew apart within a crimson flower. But four more spears slammed down. Dreamer, Clionna, Pleiades and Obelia were stabbed like olives and Lazuli could hear their death screams, writhing on those terrible blades.
The beast gorged on them. The four FOnewearls knew that they were doomed. The demon would destroy Pioneer 2, those who stayed would die, and those who escaped on the shuttles would die too, smashed as they fled. Those knives where unavoidable.
And again they flew towards the ruins of Aurora.
"HEEEELP ME!" Melody was the first to die. The dagger sliced through her gut, and swept her towards her doom. Then the mags were taken one by one, whimpering with fear, for all minds where the prey, all sentinent beings were its nourishment.
Erina tears streaming down her cheeks, raised her hand. Her body glowed with a holy light, glimmering along her legs, her torso, her head.
"GRANTS!" The shining, glittering beam shot from her hands, and crashed towards the demon.
There was a gloating chuckle, as the light slipped harmlessly through it, and the divine ray faded and died. With screams of terror, Erina and Pleione were plucked and eaten.
Lazuli was all alone. It had happaned so fast, so unbelievable, but her newman instincts told her, that she was the only one left alive in Pioneer 2.
And a single knife speared towards her...

Lazuli's eyes snapped open, and the air left her lungs in a newman keening scream. She glared at the clock. 200 Beats in the morning. Sweat drenched her bed. Lazuli lept to the floor. Her eyes snapped down to her sato, purring softly in sleep. She stampeded over to Erina's room. Erina was curled in a foetal position, breathing gently.
Lazuli's terror was not quelled yet. She checked on Melody, lying on her back and snoring gently.
And Pleione...Lazuli opened the door to the once cuboard. Pleione was in the far corner on her stomach. Muttering, not muttering, pleading in her dreams.
A terrified look was on her face. "Don't, don't, don't!" then a gentle snoring settled. Pleione sank into the blissful embrace of sleep.
But Lazuli was troubled by what Pleione had said, she did not want to go to sleep anyhow, in case that demon returned on her eyelids.
She sat in her nightie and made coffee, and waited until morning.
