Cricket. You play on a large circular field usually. In the centre you have a narrow strip of grass. At the ends of the long strip of grass you have a set of stumps. (These are three pieces of wood in the groud about knee high with a little piece of wood across the top). One person runs to one set of stumps and throws the ball at the other set of stumps at the other end of the narrow strip of grass. The player at the other end, has a bat and has to hit the ball as hard as he could. If he hits the ball and someone catches it before it bounces on the ground, the batter is out. If not, the bats man and his team mate (didn't throw the ball) run towards each other's stumps. This is a run. If however, the ball hits the stumps (you can always tell when it does), then the batsman is out. And a team mate comes to take his place.
