Hmmm. I have an idea for stopping hacking but I know of the logistical problems in actually pulling any of our ideas off.
Mine works like most people's ideas... using random numbers to stop duping. But the problem with that is eventually... you are going to get two numbers the same.
With my idea, each item is coded using your personal serial codes you have to enter when you first play PSO. Each time a rare, or super rare is dropped a random number is created based on the item and it's attributes/percents and encoded with your serial codes.
Whenever you go online. Any rare items are checked in a database to see if there are any duplicate numbers. No two items should every be the same because they were encoded with your serial number. So if someone has say a Dark Flow with good percents and someone else has Dark Flow with the same percents, they are not duplicated because they both would have different serial codes in them.
But actual trying to do this would be a knightmare. A computer that can check millions of items across 10s of servers would have to be pretty beefy. That is why I say, keep it to super rares, maybe 10 or even 11 stars plus.
And the issue of security. People will eventually crack the code and be able to have people's codes they use for PSO.
