I am very happy to see that you all are enjoying the story and getting into the characters so much. Thank you for your support!

“You have tainted your spirit once again. The darkness in your heart that was abandoned has now reawakened due to your inability to control your emotions. Soon the suffering will begin anew and you will herald it with the demon’s shadow that you will soon cast again upon this planet. If you wish atonement then forsake this power to the furthest recesses of your heart. For if you permit it anymore entrance, then your true self will be revealed, the self that you can only remember in nightmares. Be careful in choosing your actions, for the bane of this world rests within your soul. This burden of destruction can only be held back by dampening your true emotions to further starve the darkness of strength; a twisted fate, but it yours to uphold...”
Keiji awoke to the view of the same, familiar hospital ceiling. After heaving a long sigh he tried to recall what had led him back to the hospital. He could remember the attack, the wolves and Yurimi’s screams but after that it all went blank. He sat up, rubbing away his amnesic headache, and was met with the sight of an android ranger sitting at the foot of his bed. Her soft, white hair brushed against her shoulders as her attention was drawn to the newly awakened patient. Her amber eyes gazed long and hard at Keiji’s face, as if she was examining his identity for herself. Keiji averted his gaze, trying to avoid meeting eyes with the mystifyingly beautiful android. Between glances he took notice of her white dress, her smooth, synthetic skin and her snowy colored hair; if angels existed then this is what he would have thought they looked like.
“What happened to your eyes?” asked the ranger in an enchanting tone. Keiji’s expression quickly bore a look of confusion as he answered.
“My eyes? What do you mean?”
“Your eyes are no longer stained violet with animosity. And your hair isn’t the shadowy black that it used to be either. Strange...you seem completely different from the person I remember on Ragol.” Keiji was stunned with disbelief, he had no idea of what this girl was speaking of. His eyes wandered about the room as he tried to come up with some sort of response.
“You have no knowledge of the events I speak of, do you?” She paused for a long moment as she worked out the circumstances in her head. “Very well, it seems that you possess a secret that hasn’t revealed itself to you yet. I don’t understand but I wish for you to let me join you.” Keiji was again caught off guard by the girl’s words.
“You want to join me? But what reason do you have to just start following me?”
“I will tell you my honest answer.” The girl gave a deep sigh and began to tell her story.
“When Pioneer 2 first lost contact after the explosion many search parties were formed to investigate the disturbance. Among the numbers of WORKS soldiers, government officials and Hunters was my master, Isaku. He was a privately sanctioned bodyguard who was employed by an important official that worked under the principal. He was personally requested by his employer to go to the surface of Ragol with a specialized team since his skills with his daggers was unmatched. I begged him to let me accompany him, but he knew as well as I that my request was impossible. During his expedition I kept in contact with him via the BEE messaging system offered by the Hunter’s guild. As he described Ragol to me in his messages, I became more afraid with every detail he included about the rampant monsters and mysterious disappearances of some of his group members. After about a week a message came that truly concerned me. Listen to it yourself.” The girl then handed Keiji the message capsule housing the letter in question. Keiji clicked the activation key and listened to the ominous statement that followed.
“Shira, I’ve come as far as I fear that I'll survive. The entire team has either been killed or abducted. I know not of the members that wandered off in the dead of night, but something is obviously manipulating them. As I awoke this morning I found that Reno, the engineer that accompanied us, had killed the rest of the remaining members. I tried to take revenge for the senseless murder of my teammates, but I lost Reno in the vast maze of these ruins. I now send you this message with a fear that I will not return alive, or something worse; not as myself. I realize that this probably sounds very irrational to you, but know this, I regret that I can’t return to your side as I promised. I hope you can forgive me. And promise me that...argh! No let me finish! Be silent for a just a few more seconds...just enough time to say...goodbye...”
As the message faded to static Shira brought her hands to her face, shielding her sadness from Keiji. Keiji shivered with fright as he stared at the message capsule in his hand. The dying words of Shira’s master still echoed in his head.
“Shira, do you have any idea of what happened to him? Or what he meant?” Shira raised her head, removing her trembling hands from her face.
“I don’t know...but I have an unshakable feeling that he is still down there. He’s down in those ruins, alone...and I have to go and find him. That’s why I wish to join you. All of the other groups I had requested to help me have given up due to their own lack of strength and courage. But when I saw you in the forest yesterday, you possessed the eyes and abilities of a man who couldn’t have the capacity for fear. A man that would be able to fight through the countless monsters with that cruel grin on his face, the grin of one not of this world; a demon.” Keiji’s eyes widened as Shira described events and appearances that didn’t exist in his own memory. An infinite series of doubts and questions stirred inside Keiji’s thoughts as he tried to find some sort of anchor to ground his nightmares.
“This demon you saw, you’re sure it was me?”
“I watched the whole thing. How you saved that girl force after she passed out, how you brutally killed all of the enemy beasts and I even followed you through the same telepipe. Those events led me straight to your bedside, and even though your appearance is different, I can still recognize your face and equipment. It was you.” Keiji bowed his forehead into his hands as he tried to calm himself and his thoughts. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Yurimi walking through the entrance on the far side of the room. He swiftly turned to Shira and whispered a request.
“Please, tell no one of what you saw happen yesterday. Especially the girl force, if you do I fear that I will not be able to help you.” Shira nodded in agreement as Yurimi came to join them.
“Are you ok Keiji?” asked Yurimi with a shaky whimper in her breath.
“I’m fine. How about you?” Before Keiji could get an answer Yurimi already had embraced him in a hug.
“Thank you! I know that you saved me and because of you I’m still alive. I’m sorry I wasn’t more help, I’m sorry if you got hurt because of me...I...I...” The rest of Yurimi’s words fell silent behind muffled cries into Keiji’s chest. Keiji hugged Yurimi tightly, offering many forgiving words to console her.
“Yurimi, there’s no need to cry anymore. We’re both alive and safe, that’s the important thing.” Yurimi withdrew her face from Keiji’s chest and looked up at his eyes. She lost herself in his comforting blue stare and her tears began to cease. With a friendly grin Keiji brought his hand to her face, wiping away the droplets of tears that fell slowly from her cheek.
“Just like when we met. You’re always quick to cry when something worries you, right?” Yurimi tucked her face back in Keiji’s chest before whispering her response.
“I always cry when people feel they have to sacrifice themselves to save me...”

I appreciate everyones continued opinions and you have my apologies for not posting more over the last week, but spring break and easter gave me no solid writing time at all. But now that things are back to normal, so on with the story.

After a few more moments Yurimi had quelled her tears and took a seat at Keiji’s bedside.
“Yurimi, I’d like you to meet the newest member of our team, Shira.” Keiji motioned towards Shira, as he introduced her to Yurimi. Shira gave a slight bow to say hello and turned her attention back to Keiji. Noticing Shira's heavenly appearance Yurimi jealously grabbed Keiji’s arm in an attempt to claim his attention away her.
“What’s the matter Yurimi?” Keiji asked as she tugged on his arm, almost pulling him off the bed.
“Nothing...but don’t you think we should be going now. We have things to do!”
“What do you mean? I don’t remember...” Before Keiji had finished his sentence Yurimi had pulled him out of bed and toward the dressing rooms. Shira gave an awkward look then soon followed them, hiding a small grin. After they had claimed their belongings, they checked out and left the hospital.
“So Yurimi what are all these things that you had planned?” Yurimi hesitated to answer knowing that she only used that as excuse to pull Keiji away from Shira. Before she could think of anything Shira broke up the moment.
“Before we go down to Ragol I’d like to stop and have this gun I found appraised by a tekker.” Keiji nodded in agreement and without a second thought they headed in the direction of the shops. Yurimi walked a little ways behind them with her head bowed in a deep shrug.
“Grrrrr...what am I doing? Why am I getting so worked up over Shira and Keiji? All we are is a team. I don’t need to be so clingy with him because she’s only with us for support with her quest. Yeah, there’s nothing for me to be worried about. It’s not like Keiji would be interested in an android over cute, little me...” As Yurimi began to giigle to herself she thudded right into the chest of another Force. She looked up and began to apologize.
“Oops! I’m sorry, I was lost in thought for a second there. I’m very...sorry...” Yurimi’s words dragged as the force gave a wicked stare with his dark eyes. His black hair hung over his glasses as he leaned over Yurimi.
“You should really watch where you’re going little girl.” Yurimi cowered at the man’s soft, hissing voice as she tried to shout out to Keiji. The man grasped his hand over her mouth in one quick motion as he continued to speak. “So you’re Shira’s new hounds. It’s funny...you don’t look very strong to me. So why would she prefer you over me? Perhaps there’s more than meets the eye? No, I doubt that. She picked the hunter you travel with, not you. He’s the true strength behind the pack isn’t he?” Yurimi began to cry as she clawed at the man’s hand, trying to break his grip over her mouth.
“Awww...don’t cry little girl. Your hero will come soon. Why don’t you introduce us?” The man released his grip over her mouth for just long enough for her to shout Keiji’s name once. Hearing the scream, Keiji quickly whipped around and tried to find where Yurimi had gone. He searched the mass of people until he spotted the Force running out of the crowd, dragging Yurimi with him. Keiji gave a shout to Shira and both of them sprinted through the mass of people after Yurimi. The Force ran a long distance through the backways of Pioneer 2 until he came to a stop at one of the dumping facilities. He let his hand off of Yurimi’s mouth and instantly her senses were overwhelmed with the stink of the garbage waiting to be released into space. She grasped her hands over her nose and directed her attention back to the force.
“What do you think you’re doing!” shouted Yurimi through the hold she had over her face. The man gave a short a laugh before answering.
“As I said before, I’m introducing us to your friend.” As the man finished his words Keiji and Shira burst around the corner. Shira stopped as the man came into view and Keiji ran to Yurimi’s side.
“Yurimi! Are you alright? What’s going on?” As Keiji turned his attention to Yurimi’s captor, the force let out a high-pitched laugh.
“Priceless! This is just like one of those cheesy action novels where the hero comforts the damsel in distress. Well Hero, it’s about time we introduced ourselves.” Once the man had finished speaking another hunter came up behind Shira, draping one arm around her shoulder.

***Section Continued***

“I told you Shira that we would help you find your master. We’re far stronger than the weaklings that you’ve found this time.” Keiji turned around and saw the hunter that had his arm on Shira. He had long, crimson hair that streamed to the middle of his back and scattered on the huge sword that hung there. The hunter eyed Keiji as well and spoke his thoughts. “So this is your new watchdog? He looks more like a watch puppy! My mag is more threatening than this guy.” Keiji exploded with intimidation and dashed toward the hunter with his fist clutched. The hunter swiftly evaded Keiji’s punch and answered back with a high kick to his jaw. Keiji wrenched backward in pain as his mouth began to bleed.
“You best watch your action’s buddy, or I might just have to take this seriously.” The hunter had lost his sarcastic tone and now spoke in a deep, antagonizing voice. “Before we get to the point here, why don’t we introduce ourselves? My name is Tenzo and my tech-inclined pal over there is Suzaki. We don't know who you are, but we just want to show this unfaithful android here what she’s missing out on by not teaming with us.” Keiji gritted his bloodstained teeth in frustration before answering.
“My name is Keiji and you made a big mistake pulling something like this with Yurimi and Shira.” Yurimi’s eyes widened with surprise as Keiji defended her honor and with a sigh of determination she stood and began staring down Suzaki.
“Well Shira we’re gonna see what this guy's made of. Hope you don’t get any blood on that nice white armor of yours." Immediately after finishing his speech, Tenzo pushed Shira aside and yanked the red sword from his back. He spun it around his back before resting it on his shoulders. The red glow it emitted consumed his facial features in shadows, masking his expression of adrenaline-induced excitement. Keiji stared in shock as Tenzo had actually unsheathed his weapon for combat while still aboard Pioneer 2. Shaking away his anxiety, he detached his twin brand from his hip and discharged the two blades. He gave it a few twirls in his hand before settling into his combat stance.
“The boy seems to know a few moves, let’s see how he uses them.”
Tenzo charged at Keiji and swung the sword from his back in a horizontal slice. Keiji ducked under the massive swing and took his turn at offense. He spun his leg around for a sweeping kick but as soon as he was ready to land impact Tenzo had ceased his swing and now directed his sword into a vertical stab. Keiji quickly evaded into a backward somersault, rolling back into a crouched combat position. Tenzo gave a impressed smirk as his preconceived ideas of Keiji now turned into that of a competent fighter. He now knew that he could go full-force without holding back. He tucked the blade of his sword under his arm and charged again at Keiji. As he came within slashing distance, Tenzo spun the sword into a backhand swing. Keiji caught the sword on the edge of his twin and the two shared a brief stare down as they fought to overpower one another's hold. Tenzo gave another quick smirk just before cocking his head back and giving Keiji a hard head butt to the face. Keiji fell backward from the impact and sprawled out on the ground with one hand grasping his forehead.
As Keiji laid before him defenseless, Tenzo readied his next attack. He tightly gripped both hand on his sword and awaited for Keiji to get up. A few moments later Keiji had dragged himself up from the ground and stood ready for the next attack. Tenzo began assaulting Keiji with a rain of heavy sword blows. With every slash Keiji’s wrists would jolt violently from blocking the heavy impact. After enduring as much as he could stand Keiji’s guard began to falter. Seeing his plan had worked, Tenzo spun into a 360, knocking Keiji to the ground in a flash of sparks. As Keiji tried to arise he noticed that none of his limbs would move. He desperately strained his beaten muscles to get to his feet but they refused to move. Tenzo began to laugh at Keiji’s failed efforts.
“I like you’re spirit kid, but you’re finished. That paralysis won’t wear off for another ten seconds and by that time I’ll have finished you. It’s been a nice workout, but this is where it ends.” Tenzo angled his sword to the ground and began one last dash at his paralyzed opponent. As he began running faster the sword kicked up a spray of sparks as it skimmed across the metal floor. With a dominating malice in his eyes Tenzo readied to dispatch his opponent.
Despite what Tenzo had said, Keiji still tried to move his body. He exerted his muscles and his thoughts in an attempt to break the paralysis, but unfortunately his attempts failed.
"What's going on. Why won't my body respond?!" His eyes began to wander about the room, catching Yurimi locking staffs with Suzaki and Shira with her back turned to the whole ordeal. As he looked forward and saw Tenzo charging at him, his thoughts began to echo with fear and frustration. His mind flooded with screams and squeals until one voice shouted through.
“You're too weak...”
After those three words, Keiji’s thoughts were silenced and suddenly his eyes clouded to a deep violet again. His hair began to fade dark as Tenzo came down with his finishing blow. In the blink of an eye Keiji caught the blade of Tenzo’s sword with one hand and gave a disturbing grin at his confused opponent. Before Tenzo could say a word Keiji twisted his wrist and sent Tenzo spinning into the adjacent wall. As he struck the wall Keiji hurled the sword toward him, impaling the wall inches away from Tenzo’s head. In a blur of speed Keiji stood over Tenzo, giving him a haunting gaze of insanity. Keiji slowly reached down and grabbed tightly to Tenzo’s neck, and raised him into the air. Tenzo bore an incredibly surprised and confused look as his opponent displayed a power that was not only unforeseen, but also unlike anything that seemed humanly possible. As Keiji began to draw his other fist back for a punch a bright light consumed the group of brawling hunters, blinding them all. A large craft soared above them, observing the battle scene from above. A voice shot over a loud speaker on the craft giving formal, precise instructions for the combatants below.
“Everyone withdraw from combat immediately, place your weapons on the ground and hands in front of you.”
Keiji and his group all cooperated with the man’s instructions but Suzaki and Tenzo darted away into an adjacent alleyway. Another craft immediately left in pursuit of the two and the main craft began to descend, still blinding Keiji and his friends with it's searchlight. As the craft touched down, the landing gears gave a loud hiss and the searchlight clicked off. Just as the light faded away, Keiji’s features had once again returned to normal. He fell to his knees in reaction to his wounds and drained strength. He struggled to stay conscious as a man in a uniform hopped off the craft and walked towards him and his friends.
