Well all hacks are different because of abnormal damage bonuses. Its dupes you have to watch out for, there really is no way of telling if an item is a dupe or not... :O

There are several ways, these are the easiest ways.

1. An item can't have its HIT maxed.
2. No more than 3 stats can be at 100%.
3. No stat can be above 100%.
4. Only 3 stats may be upped.
5. Items such as Red Ring, Black Ring, TJS, Dark Weps are hacked/banned, some people believe that some of the above mentioned weps are legit, but I don't, (having asked Sega myself they have told me this), whether they are legit now or not is another question, but you can bet you mag that 99.99% of them are hacked/duped.
6. No mag can level up past 200.

Those are the easiest ways I can think of at the moment.

Also, if someone enters your game and offers you tons of super-rares at the drop of the hat, ask yourself; "what are they getting out of this", most hackers/dupers are friendly and genuinly do it for generosity, but there are some who want to ruin your online experience, hence I suggest only trading with legit Ragol.co.uk members, and people on your GC list.

Also, you tend to get a lot of hackers/dupers/FSOD'ers hang around Vega 01 and Altair 04, so if you go there, and someone offers you a trade, think about it first, (some people will be these L200 hackers, and sometimes just flood clan signs and such, so be wary).

If you want to find a particular legit rare, you could also visit the Ragol.co.uk trading forums and put in a request there, also, if you see me online, I have legit rares for donation, (for free in most cases, and all are 100% legit).

Also, I've heard that people have found a way to trade S/SS/E rank cards online, remember that it is NOT possible to trade S/SS/E rank cards.

if its a dupe of a legit weapon, the only way to tell is by using common sense... something not many seem to have heard of

A pretty effective way to tell is if the player is a level fifty or below and is using super uber weapons, don't trade with these people.

They could have legitly found them with another character though, as many people will have multiple characters and swap the weapons round, especially if they do Challenge Mode and get the same rare twice from it, but I see your point on that one, in this case, even if the weapon is legit, no-one will believe it, either that or the person using it got it from trade and is a naive newbie.

The other thing you've got to watch out for is people using GOE (God Of Equip), make sure you know who can use what, and at what level, if you see a Lv5 HUmar using a Chaos Sorcerers Cane, you know something smells.

Mags are also common dupes, such as Mags at level 1304, so, again, if you have someone at a low level doing phenomenal attacks, you know they're probably using hacked items.

Also, if someone offers you 2 rare weps that are the same, check their stats, if they're identical, (and are generall maxed out), they could be dupes/hacks.

yeah your ways are accurate scott, but not for telling a dupe of a legit weapon. The stats of the weapon dont go mental just because its a dupe, thats part of hacking

Exactly, that's what I'm trying to say, as soon as you buy the game you've got the ability to dupe an item, but you need something else to hack an item.
