I don't believe so, I mean like...probably 5-8 year olds. But Tolkien himself noticed that his writing was taking a more evil, darker, more mature turn. But that's what made them so successful.

I like the new avatar, by the way Double Edge.

Another thing, as DE mentioned, Fantasy stories need is a good guy-bad guy complex. What's the use in having mystical worlds if you can't save'em right?

It's Link!

What's in a name? Nah, you're probably right. Jordan does sound a bit better than Rigney.

To me, fantasy worlds are great, whether or not you are able to save them. Fantasy provides a good form of escapism. Maybe not the best, but better than a lot of other means.

I actually liked the Harry Potter books! I had to reread the first book though, to flush out the disagreeance of interpretations when I watched the film. Sorry, film fans.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were originally written for his children, yes. My eight-year-old sister loved them too. Children are smarter than most people think, eh? Big Grin I wonder if I should introduce her to The Wheel of Time series.

Sorry about bumping the old thread, but new fantasy things continue to arrive on our doorstep every day.

Mirinee: I've finished Crossroads of Twilight a while back, and I say you should definitely get ahold of them all. The paper backs are cheap at $6 a piece. The book is very sluggish however, all of them except ten are action packed. But definitely worth reading, Jordan is "getting his affairs in order for the final books" as it were. Since you've read Eye of the World you've already gotten yourself in to deep to stop now. Besides, there is a surprise in book 9 that you can't miss and I repeat cannot miss. I read off of Jordan's website that book 11 is due out March, 2005 (this month), after I post this I will be off to Jordan's site and seeing if they have anything on it.

I purchased books one and two of Tales of the Otori: Across the Nightingale Floor and Grass For his Pillow I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this series is worth reading? If not I can sell them and make some money back. I also purchased New Spring: The Novel which I haven't got around to reading, but reading part of a chapter off of Jordan's website, I've learned that it's set during the last part of the Aiel War. Outside Tar Valon, during the battle know as the Blood Snow, and from the reviews I've read it seems you won't be slogging through it like Crossroads of Twilight, or as one critic wrote. "Jordan is back in full form"

Also I highly recommend, to every one, reading the Sword of Truth series. This is series is very close to Jordan's Wheel of Time series, but I has more adult themes acompaning it. It has some "bad words" for the younger kiddies but nothing we would consider awful( The books occasionaly use "bitch" and "whore" but nothing like the F-bomb.) Un-akin to Jordan, Goodkind doesn't take the time to establish his characters(this is in no way a bad thing), he introduces them and builds their personallities as he goes along, they become similarly eerie, like they're people you know, or could easily know. The action hits fast and doesn't really stop. And you come to care about the characters. Book one is entitled: Wizard's First Rule. Goodkind just released Chainfire in January, so the Series is not yet done.

If you have any fantasy series that you could recommend to me, and have a place that you know of where they can be bought over the web, then please post it here.

Thank you, and happy readings,

Teh EkwEE.

I have a friend who is just now lending me all of the Wheel of Time books. I'm really into the Forgotten Realms books, especially those by R.A. Salvatore and Elaine Cunningham; anything that deals with Drow Elves especially. The Tolkien books are good as well, and I've been trying to find a few older books by Peter S. Beagle that are *supposedly* out of print now here...

By chance, has anyone ever heard of the trilogy "The Sword" "The Ring" and "The Chalice" by Deborah Chester? It's my favorite Fantasy series of all time, really well done.

My brother is absolutely addicted to books such as Crossroads of Twilight as well as other books by Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind and others. He's a total Fantasy book freak; but then again, I have always only been really interested in reading books and novels by authors of fantasy books. As I mentioned prior, Redwall was very interesting to me. I suppose what captivated me most was just the subtle fact that all of the characters were creatures of one sort or another. Brilliant on Brian Jacques part.

I heard the Redwall series was good, but reading fantasy books about anthrophimorphic (wow if that aint a big word) animals really doesn't appeal to me.
