Shadamoo Wrote:Yes, but Encore is a different company to Squier >>

I've seen acoustic bass guitars in the music shop near me.

Same company, I assure you, they just use independant names, such as Technics and Panasonic, (they also have a 3rd company in Japan too), they don't have the same name on the head or anything, but they are, (hence all Technics products are now changing to Panasonic).

Emry's you should try Rock Shop by Yamaha, many officially licensed shops like Allegro's have them, and they can also give you a decent price since they deal direct with the company.

"Rock Shop", huh? I don't think there are any of those around where I live.
I'm in the boondocks as far as art of any kind goes.
I think we have... 1 local guitar shop that's any good.
The nearest Guitar Center is a full hour and a half away.

I can Play errr... James Bond and Ode to Joy.

Anyone caught smoking at Layer Road will be buried in the
centre circle by the forking groundsman, with only their head
showing, and left there during the second half.
Previous threats of electrocution, being made to listen to Will
Young and being hung from the floodlights have
failed to discourage all the smokers.

If Cardiff players had to stand and pay respects to an English national anthem, would they? I don't think so.
But Arsenal players manage to do it.

At school, I play on these cool Yamaha acoustics, which give a nicer sound than my classical guitar.

I still havent got my electric guitar.....Angry

But, I am learning a lot on my classical now, I learnt Wonderwall by Oasis...not related to the topic I know, but its an achievement for me!

Thats aight shad. I started on acoustic first. It's actually best you do. Because electric is about picking up techniques that you can't really do on acoustics. Plus you have less frets, so it's good for starting out and working on fingering and basic speed. Electric isnt a nessecity, it's a convience when learning to play. I see electric as a privelage though, because you don't need it if you're not in a rock band and you're just looking to learn.

Acoustic is totallly different to learn, if you intend to play electric, it's best to start elecric, that way your fingers can get used to the wear and tear, as well as the feel on the strings, your body can become accustomed to the weight, and also, you can develop an acoustic style on a electric guitar, wherea's those same electric styles wouldn't work too well on an acoustic, (people have learned this in the past when they try to fob me off with an acoustic that I need an electic for).

Anyhow, check out my new guitar:

[Image: EpiphoneG-310EmilyTheStrangeSGElect.jpg]

The specs are:

Pickups: 2-Open Coil Humbuckers.
Hardware: Chrome.
Scale: 24.75".
Nut Width: 1.68".
Neck: Bolt On.
Neck Mat: Mahogany.
Fingerboard/Inlay: Rosewood/Dot.
Body Mat: Alder.
Finishes: Emily The Strange Graphic.

A description of is is:

The body of the Epiphone Emily the Strange guitar is an Epiphone G-310, with the pointed horns of Gibson's classic SG style. Emily's mischievous face peers out from a spooky, swirling crimson, white and black graphic that includes her favorite saying, "People Are Strange.". Sabbath, one of Emily's four cats, also appears on the body of the guitar, and a pair of cat's eyes are inlaid in pearl on the fingerboard at the 12th fret. The swirling motif repeats on the headstock, which also sports "Emily the Strange" on the truss rod cover.

I got it for the neat price of £229.98 too, which isn't a bad price for a guitar, and is one of my cheaper ones, (I bought this one for the design, rather than the value).

Well also scott, many people get caluces simply playing for a few minutes. The copper strings found on acoustics get your hands more used to it so it leads to less caluces later on.

If you get that from playing an acoustic guitar, then you should look for another instrument, it means your hands are too soft.

As for guitar strings, there are around 5 different types for acoustics, many of which now are all nylon, though you can still (when imported from legal channels) get ones made from cat-gut and such, (as with violins and such), I prefer Nylon/Copper mixes, (this is why the top 2 stringer on a guitar are generally made of a different material to the bottom 4).

Also, you've got to take into account the persons required string guage, I use either some custom ones I get made for myself or good ol' 9 and 10 guage strings.

The problem here is most people are going into music for all the wrong reasons, thinking it's all fame and money, so they go for electric stuff and keyboards, I started out on the piano as keyboards were less technologically advanced when I was 4, lol, (check out the Yamaha Tyros 2, to see the sh*t I'm working with now, and I meann sh*t as in it's one helluva' flagship class beast).

But anyhow, what do you think of the ETS Guitar, cool huh?

The only thing I'm not too keen on about it is no tremelo arm, so I have too use wah-wah pedals to try to alter the sound as best as I can with the dials/wheels/turns/pick-discs, whatever you wanna' call them, on the body of the guitar.

The price was good though, it's a good quality, like Squire's, and it's also a reasonable price, it's good to see you can get a styled guitar still for a decent price.
