For all those people saying to hit all his parts at once:
Hitting any of the blue pillars is a very, VERY, bad idea! From careful research I've found out the hard way that hitting the pillar that isn't red in the first form causes the technique the red pillar will use to be MUCH stronger. Focus on just the red pillar in the first form. For everything else though the shotgun weapon would work well. Shatter multiple monitors and hit all the parts of form 2. Here's a little tip for dodging the green orb of doom: When it is starting to get close behind you, circle the orb! Go around and around it until it disappears! It's traveling so fast it can't turn properly so you actually avoid it! If you do get caught by the orb, be sure to have Dimates and Trimates with you! You can still use them while you are caught to refill any missing HP. Some Sol Atomizers wouldn't hurt either to deal with continual shock. That's really all the tips I can think of other than you should consider hunting a better gun, like a decent mechgun. Of course, I don't know your Section ID... so whether you can get a better gun or not strictly depends on your ID.

one more tip to say- DONT TAKE OUT THE SCREENS!!!!
all the screen do is make the pillars pop up more often (if theres no screens then the pillar will go down, up down up...) and the time where he wanders round the screens is handy for healing/shifta.also, its just easier not to go after trhe screens and be facing where the next red pillar will pop up from so you can muller it without looking for it first.

The rock-like things that entrap you have a photon attribute of ????, but they can be attacked. Then, if they break you out, move the heck out of the way ASAP and Vol Opt will shoot his laser beams of death at nothing but air. I learned that when playing multiplayer a long time ago with my brother. Jarl, attacking the screens will actually do damage to Vol Opt too and help you get to the second stage faster (that's why if you do major overkill on the screens you don't need to kill a single column). If you really want, you can leave one screen standing though.
Too legit to quit.

Actually once a teamate breaks you out Vol Opt won't shoot his laser beams. The colour of the shooter changes and it can't attack for a while.
Sometimes, playing multiplayer, it's useful to get hit by the big ball. When you have good backup of course.

Actually it's always a bad idea. I've experienced a glitch more than once during Vol Opt Version 2 where I could target the rocks, but could not hit them. It was very frustrating.

yeah but if your a high lvled guy that can withstand it, if you get hit then your teamates have a window in which they can absolutely muller him without retaliation. i see colohues point there.

i don't mean to sound condescending with this post, but just for good measure:
I was a level 86 Fomar when I beat Vel Opt V. 2 on ult. I believe my Hp was no higher than 650 at best. I'd guess it was in the 500's. Even now, at 98, that character does not have 700 HP If I remember correctly. To sum it up, this isn't a matter of leveling a character up (unless there's just some advantage that a force, or Fomar, has over this particular boss). It's just a matter of mastering the strategy of beating him. I fought him twice, dying the first and equipping four scape dolls for the second trip. I used regular barta (it was only 14, thereabouts) and beat all the screens with that. Yes, barta can indeed nail more than one screen if done right. Usually only two, but it saved me TP. Then I used zonde (level 18) on the red pillar (red ONLY). Of course, when I switched up between the two to attack, I also switched between my mace of adaman and club of zumiuran. that could be the difference, maybe. I'll admit, that stage took FOREVER to finish. In the second form, I used Gizonde (level 15 roughly) and just ran and ran around him. I remember that he would heal, then perform this random stomping thing. Just as he was finishing the random stomp, I tried to run behind him (that is to say, AWAY from the segment of his body that shoots that orb that catches you). In only one instance did I not manage to do this in time and he nailed me. Hence the previously mentioned scape dolls. I only saw that orb once because of this. I'm quite certain that what you do here influences his next move. So if you follow this pattern, you can completely avoid the orb altogether. I mean, he honestly wasn't even bothering to shoot it out. at all. Now I know that with a ranger, it's more difficult to use techs if at all even possible, so I can't help on that end until I get there and fight him with my hucaseal. then i'll have a better idea of how non-tech attacks work on him. Have I helped at all? I've only fought the guy twice, beat him once, and learned what I know from that experience. Tell me if you more experienced folk disagree, but one thing is certain. If i'm misled, being misled got me to the ultimate ruins. so ha. (not that he stands a chance in there right now, haha)

i agree
this boss is so predicable, you know what is about to do 2secons earlier, to survive is just a matter of keaping your eyes open. |
