Guitar Players....What do you play?
#31
Yeah, Carl Thompson's basses are kinda funky-lookin, but still have a good sound. (no active electronics)

And I believe that everything affects you playing. I don't care if it's your polotics, you religion, whatever. It all influences your mindset and mood, which in turn affects your playing style.

Ivan Wrote:Music is what I want to do in my life. I could care less if wether or not it's my source of income in life. I do it because it's what I want to do in life.

It's very hard to get into the business, I've been busting my balls on music for over 17 years, and spend probably a couple of hundred thousand quid on equipment and private tuition alone, so it's not cheap either.

The bonus for me is, my main area of expertise is the keyboard, and my keyboards are flagship class beasts costing around £3,500 a piece, so I can program any instrument into it, (real sounds, not computer generated sounds), also Sibelius 4, at £956, and I can always hook a guitar or whatever up to a laptop or equipment, or whatever inistrument, and get the results I want.

Sound-byte sequencing is quite fun, easy too, plus it's quite popular at the moment.
Which is another problem: you've got to perform what other people want, not what you want, the benefit of using a keyboard is I got a few thousand sounds and beats at my fingertips, (geddit, lol), can't exactly play country & western on a Stratocaster hooked up to a wah-wah pedal and amp, (and electric guitars sound too hollow when played as acoustics).
Many a time I've had to play songs I don't like, I like playing Bon Jovi, but the people want Frank Sinatra, I just think about what's important to me; the money.

It ain't my religion, or my beliefs, it's money, the only time I'm happy to see then Queen's face.

I'm gonna' admit it, I do it for the money, but also because I like what I do, it's hard enough getting a job, let alone 1 you enjoy, that and I don't have a boss, picture that if you will, then envy me, that and I do like a 10 hour week and can get a couple of grand from it, (but keep in mind all the time I'm composing or whatever, I ain't getting paid, but I enjoy the challenge).

Hopefully soon I'm gonna' put a few tracks on the internet for a free legal download, I've got enough on my plate at the moment, and am also Alpha and Beta testing some internet and music products.

You say you've busted your balls for 17 years...are you trying to go solo or are you in a band?

By the gods, Scott... You are such a sell-out.
Music is all about what you want to do, and doing it because you love it, regardless of whether or not you make any money off of it!
If I do go big, that's great, but I'm not going to change my music to get there! I'd actually prefer not to have the whole world watching me anyway.
Celeb status for me is a little bit of a turn-off.
Okay, so it's a huge turn-off.
Anyway, I just can't believe that you're so open about that. I mean, you just lost any ounce of legitamacy you had, there. I just can't understand that.
I'm sorry, but I now fail to recognize you as a musician.

Nah, that's a waste of money; I have lots of editing tools. What I ought've said was that Yamahas are the easiest to modify their sound.

Far form it, I've told people in the past I refuse to perform anything for them, but I'm no longer trying, I'm succeeded.

You honestly think all these bands in the charts today give a damn about what you think of their music, all they want is money, and sales, someone will buy their music, and they don't care who.

If anything, it shows a lack of understanding of music, not realising I'm a musician, I do it for the same reasons the people in the charts do, pure hard cash, oh, and the fact you could always join a private music corperation and put a request in for one of my CD's or DVD's.
In all reality, that makes me more of a musician, and the fame is important, if you don't want fame, you'll just be a nobody gigging in little pubs all your life, instead of a stage in front of thousands of people, your fans, and,(in a few cases for me), important people such as Sir Teddy Taylor MP.

You think if you asked Fred Durst or someone why they do music, it ain't because they want to, it's because of money.

I do it because I want to, over the past 17 years, but what you think I'd rather do, work in a corner shop for £5 per hour, or play the keyboard for £50p per hour, drive a Ford Escort, or drive a BMW Z4 and TVR T350, wear a shop suit, or wear tailored Armani, it is very much about money.

And as for Yamaha sounding naff, I ain't talking about the little £200 quidjobs that you're mate without a degree in music from Guild Hall London has got, I'm talking about industry flag-ship class mo-fo keyboards costing £3,500, I would buy your mate one so he knows what he's talking about, but I'm doing some alpha and beta tests for some music programs and 2 websites at the moment, and I'm getting paid more than minimum wage too.

As for editing Yamaha sounds, it's impossible as they use MegaVoice technology, which is encrypted into the device, and only exists on 2 Yamaha product, you're probably just thinking of SG Synth stuff you got on your tack, products have come a long way since the stone age.

I used to hate Yamaha products myself, Technics used to be at the front of the music world, until they ceased making products, but now I prefer Yamaha, and as for them being naff, they're the worlds largest manafacturer of keyboards and electric organs.

May I suggest you do your studying before flying off the handle, 'cos there's so many mistakes in those statements, I'll be making the head honchos of Yamaha and Technics/Panasonic laugh for ages at the next seminar.

Unfortunatly, I wasonly able to find a hosted picture of the Tyros 1, since the Tyros 2 is only a few weeks old, they're probably a few and far between for images, (especially as Yamaha was sueing people who put up the pictures, lol).

If you think the T2 is expensive, you can get these pre-owned for around £2, 000, not much for me, but for anyone who doesn't know squat about music, it'll seem llike a lot, so you can see why I'm in it for the money as well, £3,500 keyboards don't fall from the sky into my outstreatched hands.

Well, that's great, except:

a) Maybe I don't want thousands of screaming fans, just a few people who really get my music (bebop worked this way, just to let you know), and

b) Who gives a shit what a loser like Fred Durst thinks, anyway?

If anything, we're the real musicians here. I mean, not wanting to appeal to the masses is nothing new... Look at Miles Davis. If nothing else, you've just demonstrated that you don't know the first thing about music.
I mean, if the record company I work for in the future says: "Hey, you gotta change your music to make us more money," I'll just say: "Fuck you," give them the finger and find a record label that gives full artistic freedom.
If I end up with my biggest concert being a 400-person crowd, then that's fine. I mean, Flogging Molly tour that way, and they do fine.
I don't want super-stardom, I just want to do what I love.
If that means ending up homeless and alone, then so be it. More writing material for me. I'll be laughing at you in your limo from the comfort of my cardboard box, because in my eyes, I'll have everything I need, and you'll be some sad sap who has to convince himself he's happy everyday.
