It's rather strong, but it's a sorcery that can only target players, so it's not quite Lightning Bolt.

Sure, but compare it to this. Still, it allows you to splice cards onto it, but that's not always incredibly wonderful.I found it quite useful in Limited. Personally, I'd rather run Spark Elemental.

I suppose. It does lose out to mirror direct damage and bounce, but it allows you to take out a creature and still deal damage to an opponent. As burn, they're quite acceptable. They are also funny for Ninjustu after damage has been placed on the stack.
