Nintendo reveals new-look DS

Following a week of strenuous denials by executives, Nintendo this morning finally lifted the lid on its redesigned dual-screen handheld, DS Lite.
Lite (picuterd) is less than two-thirds the size of the current version of DS, according to Nintendo, and over a fifth lighter. The new system, which launches in Japan on March 2nd, also boasts brighter screens and comes in a pure white colour scheme.

DS Lite will retail for 16,800 Yen (roughly £81), compared with 15,000 Yen (£72) for the current model. DS has an RRP of £89 in the UK.

No details on launch plans for other territories were released, Nintendo Europe this morning commenting: “We will announce more information about the availability of Nintendo DS Lite in Europe and other territories in the future.”

DS has already shifted more than 14.4 million units globally, recently passing the key million-units milestone in the UK after a hugely successful Christmas.

Anyone for a bit of Nintendo DS Lite? Smaller by two thirds though, blimey!

The smaller size would certainly make holding the thing with one hand a lot less awkward... but it's still not going to make me like it.

No doubt, this'll be something for the 'apple' collection what with everything else coming in iPod white nowadays!

YUCK!!

I hate it. I hate small consoles. I get worried that, because all the thingumies and doodads inside it are so jam packed into that small space, it will overheat due to lack of air space.

I'll stick with my regular American import thank you

looks cool, i like the changed lights- the fact that you dont know if its still charging when its flipped closed it annoying, the light change will be much better. i dont like the look of the speakers so much though, the old ones looked better. would have gotten if i havent already, though. ninty really should release a black one...

I've got my original gameboy advance. too cool for teh small one hahahha. but for real. i think a black DS would be cooler. the blue looks nice too. Now then.... a hot pink one that was glossy and not the sparkle paint they use.... THAT i could go for. HOT PINK though. only way. haha
