Published by The Independent, London, the report has put Pokémon in second place with 155 million sales during its lifetime, Final Fantasy following with 68 million. Popular series like The Sims and Grand Theft Auto also appear in the top 10, the former with 54 million sales worldwide and the latter 50 million.

Shame there's no Phantasy Star there, but i never realised that fat ol' plumber had never sold so many games, over tripling the combined sales of others!

That's only because of how many more Mario related games there are than any of those other series. Still a little surprising though. XD

I DO find it odd that Half-life and Halo aren't on here. As well as the Elder Scrolls series.

Mario made #1 and deserves to be there but I'm surprised Mortal Kombat made the top 20.

Well when it comes to Half-Life and Halo... both games only have two games in their series, so really... even if they did sell in high numbers, that's only a high number multiplied by two. Whereas, a lesser series with a ton of games sells a lot more simply because a higher multiplier makes a bigger difference than what's being multiplied (for the most part).

Mmmmhmmm. But think of how many re-releases Doom has had over the years. And how many people have bought said games/films/merch.
I'm actually shocked it's not in there. I supposed because it's Pc, it's really piratable. =[

Yes. Sales for PC games would be much... much lower. Due to its highly piratableness.
