pso king Wrote:and recently I got what I believe to be a pop up virus on my computer. a message keeps popping up that says it's from AVG. we have AVG on this computer so it's possible that this is an update but doesn't AVG pretty much allow you to choose whether or not to update and stay like that? this thing is like a whiny little kid that won't shut up. is it a pop up or can I trust it? if not how do I get rid of it? I already tried deleting my computer account and making a new one but it didn't do anything. is there a remedy?

No. AVG updates automatically, unless a problem is preventing it from updating.
demeiz Wrote:get NOD32, some malware protection (lots of free ones), Spybot search and destroy and that other one, can't remember the name.

there are also popups and I already have spybot search and destroy. and for some reason the popups didn't start appearing until AFTER I got spybot.
If you could take a full screenshot of your desktop, includng the popup, it would be helpful.
sorry I forgot to mentin. the popups are actually on my laptop

here are two example adds

the thirs thing is a thing I made that I accidentally put in. it like one of those elephant ear donuts.
Press print screen key on your keyboard, go to paint, paste and save the image as jpeg, believe me, it will much better.

that's strange, those pop ups don't seem to be related with AVG.
That's a trojan, most likely buried in your explorer.exe file.

You're gonna need a GOOD antivirus, like NOD32 to remove it. Smile

Do it in safe mode Smile
my question is how did I get the virus in the first place? I can only think of one possible way.

never looking at a website my friend sends me again
Even a secure website can have flash embedded in it with harmful code..or java or anything really.

But yeah, probably something you were sent, or an email or anything like that.

If you want me to run you through a full clean out, pm me or something.
What OS are you on? I could send you a clean explorer.exe.
I have a little problem atm. My Task Manager is inaccessible. Right clicking the Taskbar the link to it is greyed out and if I try to run it ANY other way it says it's been disabled by my administrator. I AM the Admin lol.

If it helps, I'm on Vista.

Thanks in advance folks.
