I would assume so - In most other MMOs that's the general function, though due to the nature of PSU it might be different.
It also may be based on the amount of time you're disconnected.
Yeah, I don't think it can do that with PSU. Since you'll be in a mission. It would be kind of weird if you suddenly poped back on in the mission again. Espicially if everyone was like 3 areas ahead of you.
A disconnect wouldn't be that long. If I was in a group that powerful that they;d be three areas ahead of me in two minutes, I'd be kinda creeped out / would have no use for the mission.
For serious.
I know, I was just making an example. But also what if you decided to stay offline after you got disconnected and the people finished the missions. You would log on and the whole thing would be done and that would just be kind of weird. So i think when you disconnect you will be sent back to the lobby.
If you get disconnected in a mission, when you re-connect you are placed in the Field Lobby, then you can hop back into the mission and catch up with your friends.
If your disconnected say, in the Colony or another Planet, when you get back online, you'll be put back in the area you were before.
Just my experience from the Beta. (I was disconnected a few times)
At least you CAN enter a game while a mission's in play now. That was always the most annoying thing about PSO GC.

Me and my friends would often avoid quests just because if someone disconnected we all had to quit in order to bring them back in.
Well wont some missions not have that option?

No way of confirming that yet Wolf, but from my experence, you can join in any mission, but you rank at the end will be greatly hindered.
Ohh so everyone gets a different rank?

There are missions that don't have the option. The obvious example are Story Missions, which have to be played single-player anyway.
