Yes, that's the MAJOR disadvantage to merges. Their DEF and EVP ratings are basically as bad as a Soul Barrier! Which is WAY down and almost rock bottom on the list of ratings. I don't recommend using merges beyond Hard Mode myself or you'll get pummeled with any character that can make good use of them.
