Apart from the fact solar beam needs charge or sunny day preparation and water starter can learn blizzard
Stat differences among starters are minimal.I doubt there will be link up. Every time the games change technology compatibility is lost (with the exception of pokemon crystal, but emerald stuck to GBA technology
