would you consider piping legit? i know most people here do but i think it is just cheating the system. if someone plays for 10 hours to find a weapon off a rare enemy and you just pipe for 2 hours and get it. its just unfair and makes weapon not as rare as they should be.
no, piping is a perfectly good way of findining rare monsters, why shouldnt you use it?
piping? interesting. yes and no. yes because sometimes surely all of us do not physically have the time to do the necessary runs through levels to obtain rare monsters/items. no, only because it would take away the few seconds of elation on finding the rare properly. i do both depending on my time and patience :S
It depends on the definition of legit.

If legit is "not interfering with the game data in any way", then no, piping's not legit, because piping is a way to reset the monster values over and over until you get what you want. In that respect, the only way to be truly legit is to just take what comes, when it comes.

Personally I don't hold with the legit/unlegit thing because of the grey areas. Is it legit to hack back a weapon lost to FSOD? No? Why not, when you had that weapon before and saw it drop? You already owned that weapon. An argument could possibly be made that piping a rare monster is actually less legit than ARing corrupted data, since in the one instance you'd already gained that achievement whereas in the other you hadn't.

I ought to stress that I'm not speaking up for either side here Tongue I have legit characters and I have unlegit characters, leave it at that.

As for piping, though... I don't do it, but not because of legit/unlegit worries. I don't do it because it makes my gamecube make frightening noises. PSO's hard enough on the lens as it is. The benefit of doing runs is that you're gaining exp while you play, and your cube isn't having to do all that strenuous loading all the time.
even ST considers it as legitimate tactic. so... *shrugs*
I think it's alright because you aren't being a hacker in any way, shape or form and not making weapons from a PC and you're just playing. That's like doing a quest and when you've finished you don't collect the reward, instead just quit game so in my opinion piping is alright and perfectly legit Wink
the point is wether or not youre exploiting a bug.
shopduping would be an exploit and thus against the ToS.
piping, canaring-piping, recoboxing etc would be using gamemechanics. not against the ToS -> legal.
As rena-ko said, you're not breaking the ToS, and Sega have recognized it, so it is legit. It's just a hunting trick - if it was that bad Sega would have fixed it long before GC/Xbox.

An advantage to simply running the quest or level over and over again until you get the rare is that you're also earning exp and possibly other rares, something you won't get with piping.

It still takes work though, and sometimes patience - something I tend not to have. So, legit it is!
Yeah I agree if you put the time into piping a rare then it should be consider legit...I mean personally I have put a lot of time in piping and I only got one weapon. In my eyes piping is a legit practice. Smile Smile

But how do you feel about playing mulitplayer to expolit the other characters id to find different rares by yourself? :alien:
Piping IS legit. Cause you spend a lot of time and effort in doing this.

And the rare monster may not give you his rare item.

Unlegit are things that dos not involve effort and other things.

Example:

1. You spend 3 hours piping a Pal Rappy to get a Red Handgun. Your friend wants one too, so you pipe for more 3 hours to get his Red Handgun.

2. You acidentally find a Pal Rappy, kill him and get a Red Handgun. Your friend wants one too, so you dupe in five minutes and give to him.

That's the difference.

Nobody that want to find a rare monster doesn't pipe.

I mean, why would someone do the Forest 1 and 2, and then reset the game? Piping is legit, you aren't cheating in any way.

You put more effort in piping than in trying to find without piping.
Cause you don't earn any experience, and you may not find rare items that you would find doing the forest 1 and 2.
